Michael Gwisdek

The Actor was one of the Greats of the Film and Television Landscape

No one could nag so mischievously, argue so deeply about the world and question it with clever and sometimes crazy twisted punch lines like Michael Gwisdek. Born on January 14, 1942 in Berlin, he advanced at an early age to become one of the most important theater actors in the GDR, before he came to the film business in the late 1960s through numerous supporting roles. From the 1970s onwards, he was one of the few artists from the GDR who also took part in films by West German directors and at the same time remained present with leading roles in GDR films. After the "Wende", Gwisdek advanced to become a sought-after actor and director who was now in demand throughout Germany. In films from Roland Gräf's "Der Tangospieler" to "Oh Boy" by Jan Ole Gerster to "Kundschafter des Friedens" by Robert Thalheim, he set not only comical, but often dramatically touching accents with his unmistakably fine acting. Michael Gwsidek died on 22.9.2020 at the age of 78.
