Films by the scholarship holders of the renowned artists' programme provide insights into topics from all over the world

The Berlin Artists-in-Residence Programme of the German Academic Exchange Service DAAD is one of the most prestigious international scholarship programmes for artists in the fields of visual arts, literature, music and film. Since 1963, it has awarded around 20 scholarships annually and worldwide, usually for a one-year stay in Berlin. The names of the more than 1,000 former guests are impressive proof of the programme's quality standards. In the more than 50 years of its existence, it has thus made a significant contribution to the international representation of contemporary art in Berlin. From the very beginning, the Berlin Artists-in-Residence Programme has defined itself as a forum for artistic dialogue that transcends cultural-regional and, above all, political boundaries. This forum becomes effective and lively through the work and presence of the artists in the city, through the approximately 100 events that the Berlin Artists-in-Residence programme organises each year together with its guests in Berlin and elsewhere, and not least through the international juries of the four disciplines that decide on the awarding of grants. It is not only in Berlin that positions of the artistic avant-garde are presented at an international level, triggering a discourse on both the aesthetic and the political. The centre of activities is the daadgalerie in Oranienstraße.
